Description
Pantheon is one of the best-preserved ancient Roman buildings in the world and one of the greatest achievements of Roman architecture.
History
- Built: Originally around 27 BC by Marcus Agrippa during the reign of Emperor Augustus.
- The current structure was rebuilt around 118–125 AD under Emperor Hadrian after earlier buildings were destroyed.
- It was originally a Roman temple dedicated to all gods.
- In 609 AD, it was converted into a Christian church, helping preserve it for nearly 2,000 years.
