Description

East Side Gallery is the longest remaining section of the Berlin Wall and one of Berlin’s most famous open-air art galleries.

History

  • 🧱 The gallery is located on a 1.3 km section of the former Berlin Wall.
  • After the fall of the wall in 1989, artists from around the world painted murals on the remaining concrete panels.
  • It officially opened as an open-air gallery in 1990.
  • The artworks represent freedom, hope, unity, and the end of division.

Highlights

  • 🎨 “The Fraternal Kiss” – The famous mural by Dmitri Vrubel showing the kiss between Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev and East German leader Erich Honecker.
