Description
Xochimilco is one of Mexico City’s most unique attractions, famous for its ancient canals, colorful boats, and floating gardens. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and preserves part of the waterways built by the Aztecs.
History
- The canals date back to the Aztec Empire, when they were used to transport people and goods.
- Farmers created artificial islands called chinampas (“floating gardens”), which are still used for agriculture today.
