Tulum Archaeological Site

Tulum Archaeological Site is one of Mexico’s most spectacular archaeological sites because it is the only major Mayan city built directly on cliffs overlooking the Caribbean Sea.

History

• Founded around 1200 AD during the Late Postclassic period of the Maya civilization.
• It served as an important port city for trade between the Yucatán Peninsula and other parts of Mesoamerica.
• The city was protected by stone walls, making it one of the few fortified Maya cities.
