Teotihuacan is one of the largest and most important ancient cities in the Americas. It flourished long before the Aztec Empire and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
History
- Founded around 100 BC.
- Reached its peak between 100 and 550 AD, when it was one of the world’s largest cities, with an estimated population of over 100,000.
- Its original builders remain unknown. The name “Teotihuacan” was given later by the Aztecs and means “the place where the gods were created.”
